I am now 9 yrs old!!
I had my Well Child Checkup today, Feb 13th 2017 and I am 105lbs and 59" tall, one more inch and I will be 5' tall.
Well, this past year had its ups and downs. Let me get the downs out of the way first.

First off, I fractured my arm and not any arm but my left arm....I am a lefty. This happened right before Halloween so can you guess what color of cast I got? ORANGE !!!
I was walking into school ( Oregon Trail this year) and went to get my bib for breakfast and my foot hit the chair and down I went. I didn't cry long so grandma didn't think anything of my fall. When grandma picked me at the end of the day, the teacher said, during my occupational therapy, I wasn't happy and tried to hit the teacher (she was making my wrist hurt). Grandma noticed that night that I couldn't put pressure on my wrist so I had it x-rayed the next day and it was fractured.

If fracturing my arm wasn't bad enough, I also had dental surgery done. 9 teeth pulled and 3 crowns.
All 4 eye teeth were pulled as they were going to be coming out soon and 5 teeth had cavities in between the cracks. 4 were molars that were going to be coming out soon so they got removed and one was a molar has short roots so it got pulled. Then other 3 molars had crowns on them as they weren't due to come out till next year.
I did very very well after surgery and healed great.
Why did I have so many cavities??
Because I am a mouth breather and my mouth is always open so the saliva doesn't get to do its job and kill the bacteria as well.

Now that, that is all out of the way, now I can brag about myself.

1.I wont let grandma pick out my shirts to wear, I do it and I am always looking for the same shirt to wear. Why cant she just buy 10 of the same shirts?

2.I am getting stronger and can walk farther. I love to walk the canyon after Saturday morning breakfast at Ihop. I even have my own sitting spot so please don't stand there or I get mad.
I even walked from my house all the way to the park.

3.I love to sit on the trampoline and bounce, swing, go for bike rides, look at the glofish at Petco, read books, ipad, watch Mater the Greater, hang out with uncle Josh when he plays video games. He will even let me play.... with the controller  unplugged,
4. I am talking more, if you can understand me. I can say simple sentences and read simple books, I am capable of reading long books but my brain goes faster then I can read. reading is my strongest area and my speech therapist isn't giving me a goal as I am to smart and she is going to challenge me.
5.I still love hugs and love snuggle time with grandpa and grandma
6. I can take off my pants and socks and that is it.
7 I love to eat and eat and eat and try to sneak food when ever I can. I wait for grandma to leave the room then I hurry into the kitchen and grab the grapes or chip.
if you have soda sitting on the counter, I will come in for the sneak attack and grab it.

Yearly Birthday Update

Here I am, another year older and a lot taller !!! This stick has the height of my mommy on it and her siblings and I am a whole foot taller then everyone. I am way off the growth chart on my heights. Well what do you expect when my daddy is 15 ft tall. Well, not really that tall but he it TALL
I am now 6 yrs old, 50" tall and 60lbs.
4 teeth are gone and my mom swears that I will need braces. You should see my nice straight teeth :)

first off I would like t say....
I AM 100% POTTY  TRAINED !!!
as of sept 2013, no more diaper for me. I was actually pretty easy to potty train. All my grandma had to say was "go potty and we will go get some french fries" It didn't take her to many times to say that before this potty thing kicked in and we were off the get some fries.
2013 was a good year for me and I overcome a lot of sensory issues. I am tolerating big groups and more noises now and learning to handle babies cries but that one is more of a challenge. I went to see The Croods at the movies and I actullay loved it so we tried another movie called Frozen. I actually watched the whole movie that time as I fell asleep during the croods.
My therapist says I love to hug cause it is a sensory issue this. I disagree...I JUST LOVE TO HUG.

I had my last visit with the ears nose and throat dr, no more tubes as the fluid is now draining on its own.

I gave my grandma quite a scare at last bone check up. He xrayed my spine and it had a terrible curve it in so I had to go see a specialist in the big city. He looked at my xray and knew exactly what was wrong so he did another xray while there was a 3/4 piece of wood under my left foot and now my spine was pretty straight. I have a short leg. I now wear these Frankenstein shoes with a lift in one shoe.
I still have a curve in my spine but it is mild.
Also my upper leg bone isn't in the hip socket at the right angel so between that and my short leg, I am a little unstable when I walk and I fall over easy if I get bumped. I cant run or jump but that is ok.

I have been diagnosed with aspergers and ADD. I also have OCD but I haven't been officially tested for that. I hate when the entry way rug is crooked so I will scream till my grandma comes running to see what is wrong and all I need is for her to straighten that rug out.
every morning when I come down the stairs, I have to make sure the baby gate to my room is shut and when I get to the living room, the bathroom door has to be shut and my grandparents room has to be shut. After grandma turns on my favorite dvd...Mators Tall Tales, I have to have the door that the dvd player is in....SHUT !!!
OMG, when will my grandma get trained to shut that door after she pushes the play button. I have screamed at her enough and I even try to talk and say CLOSE but I can just say CO. Maybe in my 7th year blog, I will have her trained.

Grandma has no clue why I do this but I do........
snicker snicker and I am not telling

AND YOU THINK MOM'S ARE EMBARASSING !!!

my talking is coming along slowing. I will surprise my grandma and grandpa and actually say a whole word but not often. I can say the first sounds of a handful of words. Any sign language you show me, I am a quick learner. I also have a PEC book those of you aren't smart enough to know sign language :)

This is my cousin Sydney.
I love when she comes over and plays with me. The only time I love
playing with my toys is when she is here otherwise I love rocking in my rocking chair and watch tv, read book, swim or play on my ipad and in the summer, I love to go for bike rides in the bike trailer and go to the park. I also love to swing. Grandma is always trying to get me to play in the sandbox. Ugggg....I hate the sand.

when I go to my BFF's house, I totally ignore her and head straight to
her room and get ALL her books out. She is finally starting to not get mad at me
for messing all her books up.

SHE IS NOT MY BFF !!
SHE IS A OVER SENSORY LOAD !!

of course my # 1 BFF is my mommy

when she was in the hospital, the docor told her she needed to get up and walk so I helped her out.
.............................................................
well-another year has gone bye so I will end my blog with my very best memory of 2013
MEETING MATOR !!!
I have the best grandparents in the whole world.
thanks for taking me to Disneyland...again :)

My Accomplishments

                  My biggest accomplishment !!!
                      May 9, 2013
After grandma trying and trying to get my tooth loose enough to pull out, she finally took me to the dentist cause my adult tooth was growing in behind my baby tooth. The dentist just put a little numbing medicine on the gums and out it came with no crying.

                                                                   May 30, 2013
Everyday at preschool, I get on the potty so I am very familiar with what it is for but I prefer to go in my diaper. Well, summer is about here and the house is getting warm so off the diaper came today. My grandma seen me standing beside my rocking chair, which mean I am having a BM so she ran me into to bathroom and my grandma was shocked cause I had already went in there when she was in the kitchen. I just couldn't get on the toilet. My grandma did a happy potty dance and was really happy.

When I first get to preschool, I hurry into the computer room before Devin sees me. Devin is a little downs syndrome boy who gets so excited to see me every morning and comes running at me and grabs me. I don't like it and it scares me and makes me cry. I love to get on the computers and can even work the mouse and play games.

After computer time we sit on the carpet for roll call. I am the fish, so when the teacher holds up the fish, I stand up and take the fish and then go to the name board and put the fish on my name. I learned this year that I am "SHAWN" that's me !!!  am I will point to myself when someone says where is Shawn.
This was my last year of preschool and boy did I learn a lot. I know every color and shape and if you show me words on flash card, all you need to do is tell me the word once and I will never forget it.
I don't even know how many sight word I know, to many
If I could talk, I bet I could read very well  at age 5. Oh and I weigh 49 lbs and 48 1/2" tall.
I have said a few random word at the appropriate time, I told my mom to "SIT" I told grandma "CHAIR" cause we were making waffles and I needed the chair at the counter. I said "JOSH" at an inappropriate time but it made all the sad people laugh. We were at my great grandpa dons' funeral and josh told me to Shhhh, to I yelled at him and said "JOSH"
My teacher walked by me and said her name 'NONI" and I told my therapist "ORANGE"
I hardly every talk but when I do, pay close attention.

                                                       FUN FACT ABOUT ME:
  • I am very smart with the ipad, I can do puzzles, games and even trace every letter of the alphabet which I have just started to do with a pencil and paper which is hard for me to grasp the concept.
  • I learned to use a PEC BOOK at school so I now have one at home. It is a small binder filled with words and when I want something I take the small velcro words and put them on my sentence stripe then I take my sentence stripe and find someone to give it to.
  • I love words !!! Every where there is a word, I like to point and it and have someone tell me what it says.
  • I am a great hugger and love to hug everyone even strangers.

Things I love to do:
Hanging out with my cool uncle Josh and play video games with him

Hanging out with my cousin Sydney and swim.
My cousin Sydney loves me and is so sweet and gentle with me.
She teaches me lots of stuff and I teach her stuff like sign language

  The not so fun facts
  • I am still nonverbal
  • not potty trained yet
  • cant walk very far and use a stroller a lot
  • my lower leg bones are twisting
  • my upper leg bones isn't in the hip socket at the right angle so I cant run
  • my one hip is lower on one side
  • my lower back is starting to curve
  • my tubes fell out and have a checkup next week to see if the fluid is draining, I hope I don't need more tubes in
  • I don't really know how to play with toys
I don't really interact much with others
    I aspirate on liquids
    constipation is a big issue
I am on risperdol which help me focus
I have a weird eating disorder.

Toncils out

March 28, 2012
Shawn arrived at the hospital at 6:45am. He chilled in the waiting room, toy area just as happy as can be. The nurse came and took us to his room where he wasn't to crazy about putting on his gown. why? because he is so use to long sleeves all winter and putting on short sleeves is a challege.
Next came the iv. She tried one of the veins in the arm but they were just about nonexistant but tried anyways. Shawn did really well having a needle in his arm. just a few whimpers but she couldnt get the vein so she had to try too foot vein. Some more little whimpers and some tensing but other then that, he sat really still. the nurse was in total shock. They aren't use to kids just sitting there. It think he whimpered more when i put his short sleeve gown on..LOL

9am- off he went on the stretcher.
Pretty intense moment. 9:11 the surgery started and 30 mins later they were done.
toncils gone, adnoids gone, and tubes in his ears.
We were in his room waiting for him when i hear those familar whines. What a great site to see. As soon as he got the tylonol with codine, he instantly quit whimpering.

He had zero reactions to the anestisia. What a relief. They even had 2 anestisiologist just for extra precausions. I was a little leary of him having codine so I asked for half the amount and then more tylonal. His O2 stats tried to drop a little on and off but he did good with the codine.

I was all settle in and had my bags packed for an overnighter. Since the anestisia stays in the body for 24 hrs, we stayed overnight to make sure he didn't have any unexpected reactions. shawn also settled right in with no problem. I guess it was because his mom was in the hospital about 4 weeks earlier for a few days and then his great grandpa was in the hospital twice recently also so he was very familar with the hospital setting.
It was a long night. First off, they did have a bed for me but i didn't feel comfortable sleeping at the end of the room cause i was afraid he would get out of bed and i wouldnt hear him so i put the recliner right next to his bed. The recliner wouldn't stay reclined unless i put a litter pressure on it and as soon as i fell asleep, it would return to the normal position and wake me up.
Shawn woke up at midnight so that was my cue to hop in him bed and watch tv with him. At 3 am, time to try to get him back to sleep. He hogged the bed but it was better then the recliner.
We were up at 6am and went home at 8:30am.
Dinner time and i had to go get his medicane and i was just planning on having malt-o-meal for dinner but shawn had other plans, he whimpered and pointed out the window all the way to the pharmacy so i ended up getting him his favorite fish sandwich from mcdonalds and he ate just about the whole thing.

Shawn did very well for the 24 hours he was there. No crying or nothing. He would hold both cheeks and give a little whimper a few times. The ipad was a life saver.

4 years old

Shawn turned 4yrs old on Christmas Eve. He is 43 in tall and 42lbs He is still nonverbal but I have heard him say "josh" a couple times. that is his uncle josh. Then I hear him say "osh osh osh" also. I am very positive that he will learn to talk. He still naps from 1-3:15pm.I always wake him up or he will sleep till 4pm. he goes to bed about 8:45ish.

He has a very brilliant mind that has really took off these last few months of being in preschool. He goes to preschool mon-fri from 8:30am to 11:45am. The first thing he does when he gets to school is: First he has to find his cubby hole which has a fish on it.The fish moves everyday. then he takes his own hat and coat off. He can finally unzip his own coat too. Then he will go pick out a book and sit quietly at the table.

What he has learned in school:
He know all the upper case letters of the alphabet
He is trying to match the lower case numbers with the uppercase and his teacher told me today that he picks letters out of a hat and puts it in the correct alphabet order.
He can match
He know several colors, numbers and shapes
somewhere down the line, he has learned to push the wood train set on the tracks.I bought him one for christmas also.

He is coming along great socially. He still prefers to play alone but sometimes he will really surprise me and play with his cousin Sydney for quite a while.
He favorite things to do haven't changed much. He loves watching tv and looking at books. His music book and his recorded book of his mommys voice are his favorite.

I recently introduced him to his grandpa's ipad. Boy was that a mistake. LOL He is totally addicted to it. I had to buy a door knob cover for our bedroom door and keep it shut now cause he will go in there and get the ipad.

Even thou Shawn lives with me, he has a very special bond with his mommy. He loves to go to her house and lay in bed with her and play. He hates it when it is time to go home. He will grab his mom and hug her and point for me to leave. He doesn't want to go. I love that he has that special bond with mommy.

preschool

Shawn has only been in preschool just a couple months now and I am so impressed on how much he is developmentally growing. He loves the song books so I decided to buy him one.He sits on the couch listening to the songs and turning the pages and I was totally surprised that he stays on the right page with the song.

He got one of his books out last week, it is a book with several squares on each page with a different picture in each square. I would ask him "where is the baby washing his hair"? WHAT? he pointed at the right photo !!! Ok, I had to try it again and again "Where is the baby sleeping"? Where is the baby crawling"? He knew them all.

He also know how to match. What a little smarty pants he is getting to be.
Now it is time to start learning some letters... ABCD is where I will begin.

meeting his daddy

Noverber 3rd 2011 was a very important day for shawn that I wanted to blog so he never forgets this day. Thanks to Facebook, he meet his daddy for the first time.

We drove to Idaho Falls and met at the mall. Yes, we were all nervous but it went great.
Shawns reaction to his dad?
I made sure to let his dad know ahead of time that he doesn't really connect with other and that is just what happened. It was more of a "watch" then interact.

We watched Shawn play on some toys at the mall then he was ready to leave and took off walking so we followed him. While I was in the restroom changing his diaper, his dad found a super ball on the floor. That was a great way for shawn and his dad to have a little interaction time. They threw the superball back and forth.
Then it was time for him to take off walking again so me and shawn's mom stayed behind and let his dad have some time. Byrons wife also came along with Byron's sister and her boyfriend.
I really enjoyed meeting all of them.
We went to dinner at a mexican resturant next door and when it was time to say our goodbye, we tried to have shawn give his dad a hug but shawn had another mission to accomplish (poop time) so the hug we have to wait until mext time
